Thoughts on the Peer Review Process for Fire Protection Designs

Presented by: Joshua Greene, P.E., FSFPE

Peer review, also sometimes referred to as 3rd party review, has different meanings to different people and can be applied to different work products. This presentation will discuss peer review as it typically relates to fire protection engineering work product, often as a result of non-prescriptive analyses. The presentation uses the recently updated SFPE Guidelines for Peer Review in the Fire Protection Design Process as the basis for approaching and performing a peer review. It also discusses recommendations for actions to take and avoid on both sides of a peer review (reviewer and reviewee) from years of peer review experiences. The presentation will endeavor to be interactive, with attendees invited to share past peer review experiences for the benefit of the audience, if they choose.
