Abstract:
Green issues are becoming more ingrained in all aspects of life, from how we generate electricity to how buildings are constructed.  This is beginning to have a significant impact upon fire safety and the codes are starting to look at how address issues such as roof-top photovoltaic units, residential automobile charging stations and much more.  Also, fire safety is being positioned as a solution to reducing the carbon footprint as well, from reducing exhaust emissions on fire apparatus to controlling fires in their incipient stages through sprinklers.

Ed Comeau will discuss a number of these issues and what is being done both domestically and internationally when it comes to the intersection of fire safety and the environment.

Bio:
Ed Comeau is the owner of writer-tech.com and a former chief fire investigator for the NFPA and a fire protection engineer for the Phoenix Fire Department.  He publishes the newsletter Campus Firewatch and has been closely involved in national campus fire safety issues for over a decade.  He received his degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts while a member of the Amherst Fire Department.
